Yes, this. We need to ask questions and be human beings rather than disciplinarians. I know that if a student complains about a book we’re reading in class it’s because he/she doesn’t connect with it. The reason could be that it’s too difficult, the themes are obscure, or the subject matter is difficult to connect with.
This is why teaching must be a reflective practice if we want to better serve students.
